Getting Started with MultiCharts

This is a brief section which covers how to download and install MultiCharts for the first time. The process applies when using a regular Windows PC, a Windows VPS (virtual private server) and a virtual Windows machine the likes of what I use when running MultiCharts on a Mac.

If you would rather watch a video screen recording then please go to the following link: https://youtu.be/3rZ1o7V47cU

Download MultiCharts

Simply go to the download page here: https://www.multicharts.com/download/ and hit the “Get started” button.

(MultiCharts have recently updated their website as of the time writing this guide. The download button used to be “Download”.)

You will end up with the install file usually located in your “Downloads” folder on your computer.

Install MultiCharts

The installation process is quick and easy (unless you get an error as detailed below).

Find the file which you have just downloaded usually named something like “MultiCharts64.15.0.27165.400_Release_x64_R6.exe” found in your Downloads folder.

Double click to start the install process.

You may get a pop up window from Windows Defender. If so, click “more info” and then the “Run anyway” button.

Click “Install” and let MultiCharts take you through the install process.

The last time I ran the install process as seen in the above video, it took less than 2 minutes to complete.

Potential Error 0x800c000e

Hopefully your installation went smoothly. But there have been times when I have encountered an error at this stage especially when installing MultiCharts on a VPS Virtual Private Server.

This error 0x800c000e when trying to install MultiCharts is related to Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.

Don’t worry as it’s an easy fix!

Before you try to install MultiCharts again do the following. This fix applies when using a VPS.

  1. Click the Windows start button and click “Server Manager”
  2. Click on “Add roles and features”
  3. Click “Next” 4 times until you get to the “features” list
  4. Near or at the top of the list, check the box for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
  5. Hit the “Install” button bottom right
  6. Once the install is complete you can exit the server manager and double click the MultiCharts install file to start the install process again

This time time should work.

If you are still having problems installing MultiCharts then contact MultiCharts support or search their Forum. Or else send me a quick email and screenshot and I’ll happily help you out if I can.
